Black in colour, this variety originates from Canada. Beluga black lentils are high in fibre, protein, vitamins, and minerals. Lentils can play an important role in a healthy diet for vegetarians as well as for those looking to lose weight, reduce cholesterol levels, or manage their diabetes.
Usage:
Vegetable caviar! That’s what we call beluga lentils. Small, round, and shiny, these lentils are absolutely delicious, providing a pleasant nutty taste. They are "dry" but do not require soaking, saving considerable time. Added to rice, these lentils will delight your taste buds.
Cooking:
- Rinse and inspect the lentils before use.
- Bring to a boil for one cup of lentils, add two cups of water. Water can be replaced with broth.
- Lower the heat, add the lentils. Cook uncovered for 20-30 minutes. Add water as needed. Season to taste, adding salt only at the end. Cooking time depends on the age of the lentils.
Storage:
Can be stored for up to a year in its airtight bag placed in a cupboard or in a cool, dry place.
